Cave Painting

I presented this lesson at a College for Kids program. The program runs for a week allowing me to plan a 5 or 6 week unit that would be presented nearly uninterupted.

The gist of this lesson is that the students would learn about cave paintings in hopes gaining a better understanding of the life of early man.  I developed a power point that gives the low down on cave painting and then had the students recreate cave images on brown craft paper with tempra paints using a variety of different tools, anything OTHER than a paint brush. The second half of the week, I encouraged the students to think in symbols much like the cave people did but made them modernize the images.  I wanted them to create a cave story of their own lives with their modern imagery, but still keeping the imagery simple.
